  • Before downloading the software, remove any previously installed antivirus software on your computer.
  • Also, disable the Windows Defender security if you have a Windows computer.
  • Close all the running programs and open the default browser.
  • Navigate to the official Avast site and locate the Avast Internet Security software that suits your operating system.
  • Click the Download button near Avast Internet Security and select your device location to save the downloaded file.
  • Wait until the download is complete.
  • After completing the download, open the downloaded file to run the installation.

Carry out these steps to set up the Avast Wi-Fi Inspector on your computer:

  • Download the Avast Internet Security software on your computer.
  • Go to the Downloads folder and locate the downloaded Avast file.
  • Give a right-click on it and select the Run as administrator option from the pop-up menu.
  • If the User Account Control (UAC) dialog box appears on the screen, click the Yes button to allow the software to make changes to your computer.
  • In the Avast Internet Security setup window, click the Install button and wait until the Avast finishes the setup.
  • When the setup screen displays the "You are protected" message, click the Continue button.
  • Go through the Avast Privacy Policy and click the Continue button.
  • When the network window appears, turn on the firewall slider button and close the setup window.
  • Now, you can view the Avast icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  • Give a right-click on the Avast icon in the system tray and select the Open Avast user interface option.
  • To check whether the Wi-Fi Inspector protection is enabled, click the Settings button and select Components.
  • Verify whether the Wi-Fi Inspector slider is ON.

Carry out these steps to turn off the Avast Wi-Fi Inspector protection on your PC:

  • Open the Avast Internet Security software on your computer.
  • In the Avast user interface, click the Settings button and select Components.
  • Toggle the Wi-Fi Inspector button off to disable the protection.

The Avast Wi-Fi Inspector scans your PC for malware attacks. When it detects that your router is infected or displays the "DNS hijack found" message, you need to fix your Wi-Fi router settings to protect any unknown threats. Follow the below-mentioned steps to fix the router problems when the DNS is infected or hijacked.

  • On the screen displaying the Avast Wi-Fi Inspector scan result , select the Go to your router settings option to access your Wi-Fi router's administrative interface.
  • Enter your login credentials in the required fields and click the "Log In" button.
  • Go to the left-side panel and select Internet Settings.
  • Navigate to the DNS configuration section and disable the DNS Relay, Advanced DNS, and mydlink (if available) services.
  • If you have configured the Dynamic DHCP settings, set the DNS configuration to Auto.
  • Make sure that you have emptied all the DNS server records.
  • Otherwise, fill up the IP addresses of DNS server fields with a public DNS server.
  • After verifying the necessary settings, click the Save Changes button to apply the changes.
  • Now, reboot your Wi-Fi router and scan your computer using the Avast WiFi Inspector.
