Fix Avira Antivirus Not Updating issue

Sometimes, the Avira Antivirus program on your computer might not get updated, both manually or automatically. Most of the time, this issue is caused by the RebootPending.txt file on your computer. This file will exist permanently in the Antivirus software’s installation directory even after you have restarted your system. Therefore, after a reboot, your system will ask for a restart, which prevents both the manual and automatic updates of the Avira Antivirus. When you delete the RebootPending.txt file manually on your system, you will be able to update the Avira Antivirus again. Let us see the steps to fix the Avira Antivirus Not Updating issue.

Avira Antivirus Not Updating

Now, please follow the steps given below to do the same on your Windows computer:

  • On your Windows computer, go to the Avira icon on the taskbar. Please click on it to open the Avira console.
  • At the bottom-left corner of the Avira user interface, you will find the Settings icon. Please click on the icon.
  • Now, click the General tab and then select the Security option.
  • Please disable the Protect files and registry entries from manipulation option.
  • Please click on the Apply button followed by the OK button. This action will confirm the change you have made.
  • It is now time to delete the RebootPending.txt file from the following Avira directory:
  • For Windows 7 users: C:\ProgramData\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\CONFIG\RebootPending.txt
  • For Windows 8 or 8.1 users: C:\ProgramData\Avira\Antivirus\CONFIG\RebootPending.txt
  • For Windows 10 users: C:\ProgramData\Avira\Antivirus\CONFIG\RebootPending.txt
  • In case you cannot see the ProgramData folder, you have to go to File Explorer and then enable the Show hidden files, folders and drives option.
  • You can now return to Settings->General->Security and then enable (or re-enable) the Protect files and registry entries from manipulation option.
  • Please click on Apply followed by the OK button to confirm all the changes you have made.
  • Now, try updating your Avira Antivirus software once again.
