Eset Antivirus Not Updating

If you are unable to update the ESET antivirus application installed on your device, follow the troubleshooting instructions given below and proceed with the same.

  • As soon as the unable to update error message is displayed, check if your system has enough free space.
  • If not, delete some unwanted files or folders and then try to perform the update.
  • If the above troubleshooting method does not resolve the issue, clear the update cache by performing the instructions given below.
  • Check if your network connection is stable and active.
  • Now, navigate to the ESET applications home page.
  • Launch the main program window.
  • Locate and press the F5 button on your system’s keyboard.
  • Now the Advanced Setup window will appear.
  • Locate and expand the Update menu.
  • Navigate to the Clear Update cache section and click Clear --> OK.
  • Wait for the on-going clearing process to complete.
  • Once it is done, click the Update tab followed by Check for Updates.
  • If the ESET antivirus applications update process is done successfully, then the issue is resolved.
  • If not, delete the old update files and then try to perform the update.
  • On the ESET antivirus application’s Advanced Setup screen, locate and expand the Antivirus option.
  • Choose the HIPS option from the expanded list.
  • Disable the Enable HIPS & Enable Self-Defense options.
  • Now, a pop-up dialog box prompting you to restart your computer will appear on the screen.
  • Click the OK button.
  • After restarting your system, check if you are able to access or view the hidden files, folder, or internal drives available on your device.
  • If so, delete the Updfiles, Charon, and emo** folders on your system.

Deleting the Updfiles folders

  • Launch the My Computer window on your system.
  • Navigate to the C:\ProgramData\ESET\ESET Endpoint Security\Updfiles\ or ESET Endpoint Antivirus\Updfiles\ section.
  • Choose all the contents available on this location and tap the Delete button on your system’s keyboard.

Deleting the Charon folders

  • Navigate to the C:\ProgramData\ESET\ESET Endpoint Security\ or ESET Endpoint Antivirus\Charon location.
  • Select and delete all the contents in this folder.

Deleting the emo*** folders

  • Go to the C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Security\Modules or C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET Endpoint Antivirus\Modules\
  • Select and right-click on all contents.
  • Click the Delete option from the context menu.
  • Now, restart your computer.
  • After that, navigate to the ESET antivirus main screen and enable the HIPS and HIPS Self-Defence option.
  • Restart your computer and try to update the ESET antivirus application.
  • If the ESET antivirus update is done successfully, then the issue is resolved.
  • If not, click the Call button available on this screen to get remote assistance in resolving this issue.
