Solution 1: Removing Kaspersky antivirus

  • On your Windows computer, open Control Panel and click the Uninstall a program link below Programs.
  • Select your Kaspersky antivirus and its related programs from the displayed list and click the Uninstall/Remove button at the top.
  • Alternatively, you can right-click the Kaspersky program and select Uninstall.
  • If prompted, confirm your action to uninstall the software.
  • Next, restart your computer and check if you have completely removed the Kaspersky antivirus software from your computer.
  • Now, you will not have both Kaspersky and Windows Defender running on your computer and the issues you had earlier will be resolved.

Solution 2: Disabling Windows Defender

  • To begin with, click the Start menu and select the Settings icon to launch Windows Settings.
  • Alternatively, press the Windows + I shortcut keys to launch Windows Settings.
  • Click the Update & Security tab in the Settings window and select Windows Security from the left-side panel.
  • Select the Virus & threat protection tab and click on the Manage settings link.
  • Toggle off the Real-time protection button to disable Windows Defender temporarily.
  • To permanently disable Windows Defender on your computer, click the Start menu and type ‘gpedit.msc’ in the search panel.
  • From the search result, click to open Local Group Policy Editor.
  • Go to the file path Computer Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> Windows Components –> Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
  • Give a double-click on the Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus policy and select the Enabled option.
  • Click Apply –> OK.
  • Finally, restart your computer.
  • Check if Kaspersky and Windows Defender are still running simultaneously.
