Why Kaspersky Conflict With Windows Defender?

Both Kaspersky Antivirus and Windows Defender are antivirus programs to fight potential malware threats on your computer. If you run both the programs simultaneously, Kaspersky conflict with Windows Defender. However, you can use Kaspersky as well as Windows Defender at the same time on Windows 7. If you are using Windows 10 and getting problems running Kaspersky due to Windows Defender, keep reading the instructions below to disable it.

Kaspersky Conflict With Windows Defender

Disabling Windows Defender using Windows Security:

  • On your Windows 10 computer, click the Start menu (Windows logo) at the bottom-left corner of the desktop.
  • Navigate to the bottom-left corner in the pop-up menu and click the Settings icon to open Windows Settings.
  • Alternatively, press Windows + I to launch Windows Settings.
  • Double-click the Update & Security tab in the Settings window and select Windows Security from the left-side panel.
  • In the Windows Security window, click on Virus & threat protection from the left-side panel.
  • Select the Manage settings option below Virus & threat protection settings.
  • Under the Real-time protection section, toggle off the slider to disable Windows Defender.
  • Exit from Windows Settings and reboot your computer.
  • Now, your Kaspersky will not conflict with Windows Defender.

Disabling Windows Defender using Local Group Policy Editor:

  • First, click the Start menu and type ‘gpedit.msc’ in the search panel.
  • From the search result, click to open Local Group Policy Editor.
  • Navigate to the ‘Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Microsoft Defender Antivirus’ file path.
  • Locate and double-click on Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus.>
  • Select the Enabled option to disable Windows Defender.
  • Click Apply >and then click OK.
  • Restart your Windows 10 computer and rerun the Kaspersky antivirus application.
