What is Kaspersky Rescue Disk?

You might have used the Kaspersky antivirus to protect your compute or laptop from suspicious malware and other virus attacks. Have you ever heard of the Kaspersky rescue disk? It is a free tool that can be written on a bootable USB device or CD/DVD and used to disinfect the system when the OS cannot be accessed due to virus and malware infections.

How To Use Rescue Disk?

  • Initially, download the rescue disk from the Kaspersky official support page.
  • You have two options to use the rescue disk tool.
  • Create a bootable device from the USB drive.
  • Create a bootable disk from the CD drive.

USB Drive:

  • Download the Rufus application from the official website (The application helps to format and create a bootable USB flash drive).
  • Launch Rufus and select the USB device from the Device drop-down list. Now, click Select.
  • In the same window, select MBR from the partition scheme drop-down list and BIOS or UEFI from the Target system drop-down list.
  • Select FAT32 from the File System drop-down list.
  • Click Start and click, yes.
  • The Rescue disk tool will be written to the USB drive in ISO mode.

CD Drive:

You can use the following CD burning applications to create a bootable CD.

  • Nero Burn
  • ISO Recorder
  • DeepBurner
  • Roxio Easy media creator

Let me guide you through the steps for Roxio Easy media creator.

  • Insert a blank CD into the CD drive of the computer.
  • Launch the Roxio Easy media creator application.
  • Select the Data Column and click Copy Disk, and the disk copier utility window will now open.
  • Click the Source button on the left pane of the application and select the Disk Image radio button.
  • Choose the folder to save the downloaded file.
  • Select the Destination option. Make sure the Recorder radio button is selected and the CD writer is selected from the drop-down field.
  • Click the Burn button on the top right corner of the screen and click Close once the process is complete.
  • Once the rescue tool has been written, connect the bootable USB drive to the computer. If you have created a bootable CD, then insert it into the computer.
  • Now, boot the computer using the Kaspersky Rescue Disk from either the USB or the CD.
  • Finally, perform a system scan and remove the viruses.

Kaspersky Rescue Disk Download

  • You can download the Rescue Disk from the official Kaspersky support website.
  • Open the browser and enter the Kaspersky URL in the address bar of the browser.
  • The Kaspersky window will open. Now, select the Support tab drop-down button and click the Security Tips option.
  • Select Kaspersky Rescue disk 18 from the window and click the Download button on the right side of the support page.
  • The Rescue Disk application will be downloaded to the computer.

Kaspersky Rescue Disk Usb

  • Download the Rufus application from the official website to create a bootable USB drive.
  • Select the USB device from the Device drop-down list and click Select in the main window of Rufus.
  • In the same window, select MBR from the partition scheme drop-down list and BIOS or UEFI from the Target system drop-down list.
  • Select FAT32 as File System.
  • Click Start and click Yes.
  • The Rescue disk will be written to the USB drive in ISO mode.

Boot Kaspersky Rescue Disk From Usb

Follow the steps to boot rescue disk from USB:

  • Connect the USB device to the computer.
  • Press F11 or F12 to enter the BIOS boot menu.
  • Select the Removable devices option from the boot menu and press Enter.
  • You can move the Removable devices option to the top of the list. Now, click the Save Changes button.

Rescue Disk 18 Update Kaspersky

  • You can update the current version of the Rescue Disk tool to the 18 version with the help of the Update utility.
  • Open the Kaspersky rescue disk application.
  • When the window opens, select the Settings option.
  • Click My Update Centre tab and then click check for updates.
  • Click the Start Update button on the left side of the screen, and you will see the time left to download the updates for the rescue disk.

Rescue Disk For Mac

The Rescue Disk is compatible with only Windows operating system and not for Mac OS.

Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 Download

  • The Rescue Disk Kaspersky supports the following Windows operating systems: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10.
  • Kaspersky has stopped the support for its rescue disk tool 10, and hence it cannot be downloaded from the official support page.
  • But you can download the Rescue Disk 18 from the official Kaspersky support website, which is the latest version and has updated antivirus definitions.
  • Open the browser and enter the Kaspersky URL in the address bar.
  • When the Kaspersky window opens, select the Support tab drop-down button and click the Security Tips option.
  • Select Kaspersky Rescue Disk 18 from the window and click the Download button on the right side of the support page.
  • The rescue disk application will be downloaded to the computer.

Kaspersky Rescue Disk Error Unknown Filesystem

When you come across the unknown file error, you will see a blue screen on your computer. In such a situation, perform the following steps to troubleshoot the error.

  • Type ls next to the grub rescue option on the screen and press the Enter button.
  • It will display the list of drives available in your system.
  • Now, you have to check if you have Linux installed on each of the drives.
  • Type ls (drive name)/ (as shown in the screen)
  • Perform the steps for another drive until you find the error.
  • Once you find the drive that does not have Linux installed on it, type the following command Setprefix=(the drive with the error)/boot/grub, and press the Enter button.
  • Type Insmodnormal and press the Enter button.
  • Type Normal and press Enter again.

Now select the operating system, log in to the Windows/Linux OS, as shown on the screen.

  • Open the terminal window (Linux).
  • Type sudoupdate/grub and press Enter.
  • Enter the administrator password and press Enter.
  • The list of commands will appear in the terminal window. Now, type sudo grub_install/dev/sta and press the Enter button.
  • Now, the terminal window will show Installation finish and will show No Error Reported.
  • Close the Terminal window and restart the computer.
  • The Unknown File system error will not appear on the screen anymore.
