What is Slammer Worm?

The Slammer worm is an SQL Error, and the SQL slammer spreads to several other vulnerable systems by scanning the internet. The SQL slammer gets into a system in the manner in which the MS SQL server runs the process with the server port 1434. It is an individually crafted packet of only 376 bytes and can be remotely accessed over the internet through a vulnerable server. The SQL worm does not have a destined file and always resides in the memory that alerts Code Red. It helps in not creating or deleting the files but actively scans the vulnerable SQL servers.

How To Prevent Slammer Worm ?

  • You can reboot the infected system to remove the slammer worm, but this solution does not guard against the infected file.
  • The underlying server resolutions started having flaws and have shed light on the SQL Slammer that was first reported in 2002 patched in MS02-039.
  • Additional information is available in the SQL Elevation of Privilege patch MS02-061. Systems already patched by installing SQL 2000 Service Pack 3 are not affected.
  • Until you find a patch installed, the system administrators can block the following SQL server files using their respective firewall/gateway:
  • ms-sql-s 1433/tcp #Microsoft-SQL-Server
  • ms-sql-s 1433/udp #Microsoft-SQL-Server
  • ms-sql-m 1434/tcp #Microsoft-SQL-Monitor
  • ms-sql-m 1434/udp #Microsoft-SQL-Monitor

Remove the Slammer Worm Using Panda Security
